Advent & Christmas 2014

Advent wreathWhat is Advent?

Hard to believe that Advent and Christmas are almost already upon us, but in case you are wondering what is happening here at your Cathedral, here is the schedule of events:

Holy City Advent Lessons & Carols Service
Sunday, December 7, 6pm w/ Holy City Hymns
Join us for this ‘feast’ of scripture readings and music led by the Holy City Hymns Collective, a group of local worship musicians who play traditional hymnody in a contemporary style. We will hear from God’s word and sing to the coming King as we prepare our hearts for Christmas.

St. Nicholas Celebration
Sunday, December 14, 4pm
Mark this date on your calendar! This will be a great time for all generations to join us as we celebrate St. Nicholas, the man who inspired the story of Santa Claus. We will do some fun activities and crafts together, hear his story, and eat some yummy treats! Who knows, St. Nicholas might even show up…

A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols
Sunday, December 21, 6pm w/ Cathedral choristers, Cathedral choir & organ
Join us for this wonderful service of Christmas scripture readings and music. Based on the same service that is held every year at Kings College, Cambridge in England, this rich time of worship leads us on a journey through the bible from the beginning to the birth of Christ. We will have carols sung by all, as well music from our adult choir and our new boys and girls choir. Do not miss this!

Christmas Pageant w/ Holy Eucharist
Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 5pm w/ Organ
Our pageant is open to any child who wishes to play a part. We will have enough costumes for anyone who walks through the door to participate. So don’t worry about whether or not your child has ever been in a pageant or even been to this church: they are welcome to be involved! We will also sing traditional Christmas carols and celebrate communion together as we worship the One who has come to save us.

Christmas Choral Eucharist
Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 8pm (w/ Music of the Nativity beginning at 7.30pm)
Join us for this excellent service of Holy Eucharist with organ, choir, and brass. There is no better way to begin the Christmas celebrations than by worshiping the Christ child through liturgy, music and the hearing of God’s word. Our preacher and celebrant will be Bishop Mark Lawrence.

Christmas Day Eucharist
Thursday, December 25, 10am w/ Organ
Never been to church on Christmas Day? Can’t come to church on Christmas Eve? Don’t miss out! Join us after the presents have been opened and before the ham is consumed, and keep Jesus at the center of your Christmas Day celebrations.
