These traditional services date back to the first centuries of the Church. Holy week represents Christ’s coming to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, Christ in the Upper Room on Maundy Thursday, Christ on the cross on Good Friday, and Christ risen from the tomb at the Easter Vigil.
