THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF ST.LUKE & ST.PAUL

PRAYER MINISTRY

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

– Luke 14:18-19

To Proclaim & Heal

Jesus proclaims this passage as he reads from the Book of Isaiah (see Isaiah 61:1-4) in his hometown synagogue in Nazareth after he returns from his filling with the Holy Spirit at his baptism in the Jordan River and time in the wilderness. Here, he announces his mission – and the mission of the Body of Christ! The gospels record his practice: “Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction” (Matthew 9:35). As his disciples, we are called to do what he did: teach and proclaim Good News and to heal.
